I really wanted to like this book. I found the topic interesting prior to reading it. I think speaking about the difficulty with mental illness and how a man in those times grows to accept his wife who is suffering from psychosis is a powerful topic and one worth writing about.

The book, however, fell flat. I did not feel the chemistry between the two characters.

Most of the book focuses on David's life and business ideas more than the difficulty he faces with his family. The idea that he was a grown man who first met his wife when she was 9 (and he was in his 20s) is a bit creepy, even though they didn't marry or get romantically involved until she was of age.

The story did not give much insight into her illness and I was especially surprised to see signs of that illness at certain times in the novel at a very young age. I was equally disappointed in the final chapters. I am sorry to post an unflattering review, but this is my honest review of the story.… (mais)
