For those interested in Gentrification and how policy, people, and business interests intersect to mold the landscapes we live in the author, David Maurrase does us a service in this text. Using Harlem as an single case study Maurrase examines how public policy and business interests aimed at revamping distressed urban areas are creating a new Harlem that is increasingly exclusionary of its long time predominantly black residents. Maurrase puts this transformation in context with the discrimination black residents have experience in terms of higher rents, predatory lending, redlining, and a general lack of access to key resources for wealth creation as well as consistently placing the lived experience of Harlem residents at the fore. Maurrase also provides a framework for understanding the process of gentrification, examples of best practices for equitable development, as well as ways for people to continue to engage this topic beyond this particular text.

Well Done.
