Early Man, by Usborne, is a informational text about cave men. One thing I can say, is I will not have this book in my classroom. While the book is informational and useful, there are pictures of naked people on several pages. The main idea of this book was to educate children about prehistoric man. One aspect I liked about this book was the writing. This book was full of information, but none of it was written in giant paragraphs that will take a you forever to read. The information is all written in small chunks so you can look at a picture and move on. Another aspect I liked was the pictures. I liked the pictures, because there were a lot of live action images of cave men hunting, farming, and cooking. These images are all very informational and educational, but I also did not like the images. While this book is very useful, and would be great for a classroom I could never put it out, due to the nudity in it. Cave men and women did not wear clothes, and they do not in the book either. Though I would be choosy about whether to keep this in the classroom based on the class (it's got partially naked people and pre-people all over it), this has plenty of history (or prehistory really) of people. Different human anscestors and their habits and capabilities are described with illustrations. Crafts to go with various people are also included- some good, some not very good.
