Superb, captivating prose. Interesting, involving characters. A plot that makes you desperate to know what happens.

From the off this book grabs you with its authentic style and the interesting predicament of the protagonist, a prostitute returning to her hometown after the death of her mother. There is a steady ranking up fear, tension and suspicion as she reencounters the locals and learns about the bad goings on in the Illinois backwater. That her mother was involved in illegal activity is not the only thing the heroine discovers - she also learns about her own past, something that will lead to a serious confrontation with the powers that be. This is atmospheric, entertaining fiction that cuts close to the bone.… (mais)
