Wow! There are so many red herrings in this book that I didn’t figure it out until near the end and, even then, I was surprised.
Mariana is a group psychotherapist who lost her husband, Sebastian, recently and is still reeling from that loss. Her niece, Zoe, is a student at Cambridge University, where Mariana and Sebastian met. Zoe calls her one night to tell her that her best friend had been murdered and that she thinks their Greek Tragedy professor (Edward Fosca) killed her.

Mariana arrives at the University and subsequently becomes involved in the investigation and then starts her own investigation after realizing that the professor very well may be a murderer. He has a secret group of female students called The Maidens and Tara was in the group. When another Maiden is found dead, Mariana continues to focus her suspicions on Professor Fosca.

I loved the references to The Silent Patient (the author’s debut novel) but it is not necessary to have read it before this book. Nor is it necessary to know Greek Mythology as it is explained in the book. The only thing I did not like was the deaths (separate) of a family dog and a sheep.

Overall, though, the book was well-written and the characters were likeable.

Wow! First off, thank you to Celadon Books for sending me the Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This book is due to be published February 5, 2019. Definitely a must read!

Alicia Berenson is an artist married to a photographer, Gabriel. When Gabriel is found murdered and Alicia is standing next to the body with blood on her clothes, she is immediately the main suspect in Gabriel's murder. However, she becomes mute and does not speak. Alicia becomes a (silent) patient at the Grove, a treatment center where Theo Faber is employed and becomes her therapist to get her to talk and to find out why she murdered her husband.… (mais)

A meandering story with a bit of suspense. None of the characters was likable and I wasn't excited to solve the mystery. I didn't appreciate the tricks, frequent "well that's what I WISH happened" asides from the narrator that do nothing but make him lose the reader's trust. I love an unreliable narrator, but this one is unreliable, unlikable, and uninteresting. Some good twists near the end that aren't worth waiting for.

I wish this had been like And Then There Were None. Maybe it wishes it was, but it's not even close.

The author is from Greece I believe, and the winds and weather were nicely drawn, but the atmosphere in general was a bit lacking. This being a character study, though, that's not too important. It just doesn't give the travel/vacation feeling that it could've.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I purchased a copy for my library.
