Well, I have a statement, first, this book has been circling my recommendations for a while and after seeing it a few days ago, I finally picked it up and read it. When I finished it, I enjoyed all aspects of it but since I've read some of the books in the series already I don't see why I would return to it any time soon. Unless they make a new book, in that case I'd be glad to read that. It starts with the main character Olive whose last name I'm not sure of living as a 5th grader somewhere (most likely America) but here's the catch and point of the novel: she has no group to join. Yet. She tries to join one initially to no avail in the first half of the story. That is until Olive gets advice from her mother and aunt (which I found heartwarming. Did I mention the art here is good and complements the narrative? It would work fine without the art but that only makes it better.) Eventually Olive has an idea to start a show where she talks like the ones on TV and that ends the book. Oh and the characters are likable and the pacing is much better than the last few books I read (since they were too slow. This one wasn't.)… (mais)

This was gold! Besties: Work It Out impressed me with its themes and thoughtful characters. I loved seeing a kid acknowledge how hard her mom is working and wanting to take care of her.

The story showed perfectly the deeper awareness you get as a kid when you realize the weight of adult responsibilities and MONEY. Some of us discover it earlier depending on our circumstances, but the conclusion is usually the same.

Chanda and Beth were so much fun together. They were chaotic and quirky but loved each other. The artwork was better than ever. The lines were sleeker (I see you Clip Studio Paint), and the color direction was phenomenal.

Something I loved was the spin on “lying, and I hope they don’t find out.” Ending spoiler:The girls legit work hard to undo their mistake and even get help from an older sibling. They honestly get away with it all until one little mistake. It’s a refreshing turn on the trope, but still manages to admonish honesty. Loved it!

I’m always game to read more from the Click series and now Besties!

6.5/10, I enjoyed this one, but I couldn't really relate to the story, I think it needed a little bit more emotion to it. I liked the character development within the story, since both main characters developed a sense of responsibility, even though they are around 11-13 years old, but they were irresponsible before that, but I think that was the point of the story. The art was good as well, but the typeface was a little hard to read. The plot itself was simple, and light hearted which makes sense, considering that it's for younger kids, not older readers who would read YA, that's why I didn't enjoy as much, but maybe I would've liked it better if this were released around 2-3 years ago, when I would've been the right audience for this novel. My only problem with this novel is that other than the two main characters being responsible now, they were on the flat side, though I did like Beth's sister, which acted like a mentor for her. If you like graphic novels, this is the book for you.… (mais)
