The author is a local East Texas author who workd with Mineola High School Library to produce two wonderful local author eventsnthat allowed our student body to meet and learn from real published authors in their own school.

Highly recommended.

FROM AMAZON : When her husband comes home from work one day to announce he’s moving out, Samantha Rutgers thinks it’s a joke. She hopes it’s a joke. It's not. He packs his suitcase and moves out. For twenty-five years, Sam was a corporate wife, a stay-at-home mom. Now she's divorced, adrift, and alienated from her daughter who blames her for the divorce. Ill equipped to be a single woman in a whole new dating culture, she would have foundered without help from an old friend who challenges her to finish up the art degree she put on hold when she married. Her classes open the door to a job at an advertising agency, where Sam makes several new friends and one enemy. There she meets Frank Reynolds, who invites her to take that first step into new love. Gradually, as she slowly builds a new life for herself, Sam learns how to stand strong in the face of adversity, personal and professional.

From Maryann Miller: The idea for this story came from a real experience that a good friend shared with me after her husband told her he no longer wanted to be married. In fact, some of the details of Sam's house came from my friend's house. So did the myriad of emotions that Sam experienced in trying to figure out why her husband no longer loved her. I was so pleased that my friend gave me permission to write her story. At the time, she asked if I could please write her the happy ending in real life. Unfortunately, happy endings can only be planned in fiction. However, now, some years later, she does have her happy ending. She has a wonderful husband and they are enjoying life together very much.

A young mother and her daughter move to Arkansas in the early sixties to make a new start. Little did they know that tragedy would cause them to become outsiders even more in the little sleepy town and everyone to look their way for answers to the missing babies that seem to be disappearing in plain sight.

A First Class Thriller

Jenny is devastated when her son, Michael, is killed in a car crash. Discovering that the driver was high on drugs increases her grief and intensifies her awareness of the danger to her remaining two children. She notices the pushers hanging around outside the school with the police apparently doing nothing about it. When she later finds out the police are forming a task force to catch the dealers, she persuades them to recruit her.
She has absolutely no idea what she is letting herself in for!

I enjoyed this book very much. It is very well-written with good, accurate prose, a well-constructed plot and excellent characterisation. I was very drawn to Jenny as she gradually gets caught up in the vicious underworld of the pushers, unable to confide in her friends and family, who begin to distance themselves from her as her behaviour becomes more and more bizarre. The tension builds when Jenny’s remaining son, Scott, decides to follow her to find out what she does on her frequent absences from home. Add to the mix the increasing attraction between Jenny and Steve and the interference of her ex-husband and you have the ingredients for a first-class thriller.

This is the first book I have read by Maryann Miller. It will not be the last.
