The Sacred Seal is the first novel in the Goodfellow Chronicles. It is a novel full of adventure and mystery, that is sure to entertain children of all ages. This book is about a boy named Sam who moves into a house, recently owned by a professor. While at the house, Sam meets a man named Mr. Goodfellow, and together they go on an adventure to retrieve a scroll and find the professor, but they have to face a man named Professor Mendrake and his son named Basil,who also want the scroll. I enjoyed this book a lot. I thought this book was very descriptive and enjoyed how the story flowed when Sam and Mr. Goodfellow went on their adventure. The Painted Chest is a lovely fable that has an important message for both children and adults. The memory of a famine has made life in the small village difficult. Barren, gray days seem endless as the villagers toil to grow sufficient food. “One day, while clearing rocks from the fields, the villagers unearthed a large object caked in mud.” The long-lost wooden chest has a message for the townsfolk: “Days will all be long and cold, If you nourish body but not soul.” Once opened, the musical instruments and dancing shoes in the chest bring joy to the small community.
