This is a slender volume of photographs of the city of Edinburgh, all in black and white . Old photographs of a particular site are juxtaposed alongside new photographs of smaller dimensions on the same page . The contemporary photographs date from 1974 while older photographs are selected from various earlier dates , and are selected from the city archives . there are clear captions and information on each page. The quality of the early photographs stands out capturing the moods of people and places in static poses, Edinburgh is so often a grey stone, historic forbidding bpcity with its towering castle and densely packed old wynds up The old High Street from Holyrood Palace to castle. Having been a student in Thr city for three years from 1968 to. 1971 I came to love the grandeur of the town and the so many attempts at monumental architecture . This book is a fine souvenir of photographic moments . I always dreamed of returning to live in Edinburgh, with it's claim to bring Thr Athens of the north . I loved The new town 's wide planned streets and fine Georgian buildings . My dream never materialized but I take pleasure now in enjoying a books on Edinburgh and this collection of photographs is a neat companion to AJ Youngson's book on Edinburgh . The book is a tribute to the city and its citizens and if you have visited Edinburgh or lived there this is the book for you .… (mais)
