The Zombie Axiom is a different type of zombie story...an alien force lands on Earth via a meteorite, chooses a human host, kills everything within fifty miles, then reanimates the dead to do his bidding - his prime directive is to kill all living humans. This scenario repeats itself globally.

A handful of humans have survived the purge and continue to fight for their lives and sanity while seeking refuge. They finally escape on a sailboat and find other survivors out on the water, who band together and set up on a deserted island in the middle of a lake. From here, they gather and store supplies, build defensive positions, train and try to make a life for themselves - spartan as it may be. While on one of the many supply runs on the mainland, one team encounters overwhelming hordes of zombies who attack from every direction. These evil dead corpses are strong, fast, tireless and move with purpose - as if following a battle plan. The team barely escapes, losing some members on the way back to the safety of the lake. It is like something never before seen...hundreds of thousands of non-human bodies move shoulder to shoulder and spread out for miles all around - hungry for human blood.

The zombies fear the water and won't enter the lake, but winter is soon approaching. What will happen when the lake freezes over? Mr alien waits patiently for thick ice to form...it's part of his plan, the colony of humans will not last an hour once his army begins the mile long trek to the island. However, sometimes even the best battle plans can go awry...even with odds of a million to one.

Mr. Monette has written very descriptive scenes into his story leading readers to feel like they are nearby watching the story play out. It held my interest to the very end and was indeed difficult to put down. My only criticism of the story is the authors' use of what I'll call "fifty cent words" throughout the tome, causing a distraction, especially if I didn't know what it meant. If a follow-up story is considered, I would recommend they not be used. A great read and highly recommend...keep a dictionary nearby!
