About the Author
Luis Carlos Montalván was born in Washington, D. C. on April 13, 1973. He joined the Army in 1990 and spent over a decade as a communications specialist, military police officer, and infantryman. He received a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in mostrar mais journalism from Columbia University. He was in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps while at the University of Maryland and was deployed to Iraq in 2003 after completing officer training. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and received two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, and the Combat Action Badge during his service. He retired from the Army on September 11, 2007. He suffered from physical combat-related wounds and post-traumatic stress disorder, but was able to recover with the help of his service dog Tuesday. He became an advocate for soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder. He wrote several books including Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Save Him, Tuesday Tucks Me In: The Loyal Bond Between a Soldier and His Service Dog, and Since Tuesday: One Veteran, One Dog, and Their Bold Quest to Change Lives. He was found dead inside a hotel room at the Indigo Hotel in El Paso, Texas on December 2, 2016 at the age of 43. (Bowker Author Biography) mostrar menos
