Born in 1902 in Kongsberg, Norway, Dagny Mortenson was the elder sister of noted Norwegian-American children's artist and author Ingri d'Aulaire. When the d'Aulaires - Ingri and her husband, Edgar Parin d'Aulaire - began work on the illustrations for the English translation of Hans Aanrud's Sidsel Sidsærk and Sölve Solfeng, Ingri d'Aulaire suggested Mortenson as the translator of the tales. These are her only publications in English. Mortenson died in 1984, in Folldal, Norway. (sources: Young Wings: The Magazine of the Boys' and Girls' Book Club and geni.com)
