This book requires work to get to the "meat" of the subject. After taking a class with Rosalie Neilson, I finally started experimenting with the designs possible in a big way. I use it for weaving design, but it could be used for other media as well. There is a spiral bound book with information about the design overlays, how to use them and how they might apply to three weave structures, huck lace, summer and winter and rep weave. However, these are block patterns and therefore can be translated into many different weave structures. Then, there are clear plastic overlays with the various block combinations printed on them. Warp faced rep weave is a playground of vibrant color and patterning possibilities. Also referred to as "ripsmatta" (a Swedish term), rep weave is characterized by the alternation of thick and thin picks of weft, or ribs. Great for rugs, runners, bags and other sturdy fabrics, rep is also wonderful for creating artistic hangings because it allows many blocks of pattern with relatively few shafts.
