Before reading this book I had never heard of Sir Edward Pellew or the HMS Indefatigable. I had heard of Horatio Hornblower but have read none of C. S. Foresters series of books about him. I’m glad and lucky to have requested and been granted an early copy of this book. The authors have done a painstaking amount of research on this subject. Researching birth, marriage and death certificate records. Obtaining correspondence between the midshipmen of the Indefatigable and their Captain and digging into the Admiralty archives, shaping a narrative that form all accounts shows that the time these men spent on the Indefatigable under the tutelage and patronage of Pellew was one of bravery and deep friendship. People like Sir Pellew are few and far between and for anyone reading this book I hope it encourages us to follow our better nature and help whenever we can those who might need it.… (mais)
