First Jacquot book that I've read and did enjoy it. Primarily a police procedural, set in 1990s France, starting with the deaths of 3 generations of Germans, the eldest generation having been involved in the Occupation of France during WW2. Investigations are made interesting by the arrival of the attracive Marie-Ange who has her own way of investigating things. Then more deaths occur and it's up to Jacquot to sort out the links and ensure that the wrong man doesnt get jailed for the crimes

Blood Counts (Jacquot 6). Martin O’Brien. 2010. I usually dole these books out to myself to drag out the time until I finish the series, but I needed distraction. This was a good book to read lying while on your back for 6 hours. Jacquot is in fine form even though he thinks he is feeling his age. He and Claudine become more comfortable with each other. Midol, Claudine’s daughter is coming for a visit. He gets a notice that one of the marine policemen who helped capture the kidnapped girl in the last book has been killed. Then he learns that the wife of one of his good buddies on the Marseille has been killed. Both of these “accidences” are actually murder, and they are connected. Jacquot figures out the connection and a rush to fine the villains before Claudine is taken. This is one of most suspenseful Jacquot novel I have read. Common sense tells you Jacquot will rescue his lover, but you can’t be sure. Lots of violence in this one too… (mais)

The Angel (Jacquet Book 4). Martin O’Brien. 2005. I love these novels! All the members of a reclusive German family are brutally murdered and Jacquet is called in the run the investigation. The husband is a former Nazi and the daughter is the wife of a wealthy German so Jacquet has the assistance of a German policeman who I hope becomes a character in later books in the series. Slowly, slowly one minute clue at a time Jacquet figures out who killed the family. Along the way he has plenty of time to have long delicious dinners with his lovely girl friend, Claudine. He discovers that the root of the crime lies in events that took place during WWII. As usual the book is filled with descriptions of luscious scenery of the south of France and of marvelous food and wine. Great book for Francophiles and for mystery fans.… (mais)

The Waterman. Martin O’Brien. (Daniel Jacquot Mystery no.1) 2005. I read the first book I in this series this spring and loved it. This one explained in more detail why Daniel was, in effect, banished to the hinterlands away from Marseilles. He is on the trail of a hideous murderer and must deal with a stupid new partner. It was good and suspenseful and the descriptions of the food, climate and scenery made me miss France, but I preferred the other one set in an old monastery to this one dealing with drugs and gangs. I’ll read the rest of them gladly. Not for the squeamish.… (mais)
