About the Author

Ned O'Gorman was born Edward Charles O'Gorman in Manhattan, New York on September 26, 1929. He received a bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College in Vermont and a master's degree from Columbia University. He wrote several collections of poetry including The Night of the Hammer, which won a mostrar mais Lamont Poetry Prize from the Academy of American Poets in 1958. In 1966, he started a storefront school in Harlem to bring literature, Latin and love to disadvantaged children. The school, the Children's Storefront, has a student body of about 170 children, from prekindergarten through eighth grade. He wrote several other books including Prophetic Voices: Ideas and Words on Revolution, The Children Are Dying, and The Other Side of Loneliness.
