Jack Paar was a late night TV personality who made a tremandous impression on American Media. He pioneered the kind of program where the host stands in for the average viewer as much as possible. This book, which sold quite well, has a lot of biographical material and essays that were heavily reliant on his transcripts and used material additional to the broadcast stuff.

A memoir by a pioneer in the world of Late Night interview hosting. His personality was attractive to most, but the grind wore him down and he was gone to the TV station that he owned in New Hampshire. The modern host/pundit style was largely created by him. The book is worth reading.

Similar to his (later) book "My Saber is Bent," this is a collection of short chapters, some of which are autobiographical (in that they touch on Paar's career, childhood, and so forth), with some of the chapters giving insight as to the first few years of The Jack Paar Show (including an explication of the famous WC joke). Generally entertaining, though not very in-depth.

Collection of essays at least in part done by the then-host of the NBC network late night chat show. How much is Paar, and how much is his ghost-writer, is a matter of question, though judging from various interviews I've seen with the man, a good portion of the book must have sprung from him individually. Not much in the way of deep insight, but one does get a fairly good look at what his show must have been like, and how it differed sharply from the kind of shows we see today. A definite curio, worth reading.… (mais)
