Boy's adventure in late colonial Malaya. I like it as a child but have not read it in a long time. A boy's father (a Briton in Malaya) dies mysteriously and when the boy comes out, thefather's partner tries to trap him, but he gets away with the aid of Malay friends.

"News of the sudden death of his father, a rubber planter in Malaya, was brought to Brian at the end of his last term at school in England. Suspicious circumstances and a curious silence about the secret formula his father had worked out for an important new process put it into his head to go and see what he could find out for himself. Being inexperienced, he ran straight into the trap laid for him by the man he had most reason to suspect - his father's newly acquired partner.
