About the Author

Michael Pollan is a contributing writer for "The New York Times Magazine" as well as a contributing editor at "Harper's" magazine. He is the author of two prize-winning books: "Second Nature: A Gardener's Education" and "A Place of My Own: The Education of an Amateur Builder." The omnivore's dilemma : a natural history of four… por Michael Pollan

The book is divided into three types of meals: one industrial, one grass-based agricultural; one hunted/gathered. The sections on industrial and grass-based agricultural meals were fascinating, truly, and I really enjoyed them. By the time he got to the hunted/gathered meal, though, I felt that Pollan became a little wordy and repetitive. The last chapter redeemed him and made the whole section worth it, but I still wish that bit had been edited a little more extensively. Overall, a great read - one I would recommend!… (mais)

Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World por Michael Pollan

Coffee or black tea? I’m the latter and I enjoyed very much the history of caffeine and all about its good and bad effects on mankind. The author and I don’t share the same political points of view, but how fascinating that caffeine had a massive role to play in the advancements in math and science as caffeine was introduced right before the subjects flourished. The point: caffeine gave humans the ability to focus like never before.
