In the thriller, Where is the Girl? Carl Johnson, an ordinary citizen turned into The American Terrorist at a personal war to take revenge on the FBI invoked murder of his son and 11-days torture he himself had to endure, ending up in a spectacular rescue mission of the first U.S. female president's daughter who seemed to be kidnapped by a Mexican drug lord. In Contagion, the sequel, Johnson and his team of mercenaries is after the Mexican but quickly discovers that there's a major play with unknown adversaries going on. Both the president, her daughter are struck with a virus, that's so contagious that all the important connections and the teammates are taken out faster than you can turn pages. According to the media, there's one man to blame for this outspread: the American Terrorist.

Jeffrey Poston enlarges the playing field by involving Mexico, higher ranks in government circles, slowly to introduce the real actors behind codes, developments, and fake IDs. Carl, who's quickly left to minimal devices faces the challenge to identify his adversary and obtain an antidote to prevent further contamination of humankind with this deadly virus. Poston uses inner thoughts and conversations to slow down between the fast-paced strikes and counter-attacks. Sure, narrow escapes, a marvelous immunity to the virus, and an open ending to take the American Terrorist to the third mission in a next thriller. Hmm, that costs credibility. I would have completed this adventure here, serving the reader two books on Johnson's endeavors that are hard to put down.

When the FBI is after the kidnapper of a high-profile girl, they think they have him. Carl Johnson, a black American without any criminal records, a model citizen, is caught and brought to an interrogation center at a secret location, where operators torture Johnson for eleven days to retrieve the location of the missing girl.

Carl Johnson, however, doesn't break way beyond the points where other people would have in these circumstances. The impact of the torture and the FBI invoked shooting of his son Mark, is life-changing. Labeled as the American Terrorist, Johnson decides to take revenge on a multiple target mission. He knows that he hasn't the resources (money, staff, weaponry, etc.) the FBI can rely on. In Where is the Girl?, the first instance of the book series American Terrorist, you will be angry and compassionate, smarter than the U.S. government employees stuck in a tunnel vision, and in favor of the one man against the rest heroic Carl Johnson. Jeffrey Poston mixes recent shootings, racial profiling with a lot of plot twists, narrow escapes, and very detailed descriptions of tortures, communications, and power play at the federal institutions, and the mental processes of the victim turned into an oppressor.… (mais)

A great sequel to American Terrorist: Where is the Girl?. In Contagion, Carl Johnson and his crew rescues the President's daughter from the Mexican Triad and returns her home. Unfortunately, her rescue coincided with her planned release and part of an elaborate scheme to kill the president and most of the government leaders. People who were in contact with the girl suddenly become ill and fall into comas within 48 hrs - when most of Carl's force succumbs to the illness, he learns that a deadly virus had been unleashed. Carl learns that there is an antidote and fights against time to save those who have not died yet, including his team members.

In Carl's quest against the Triad in Mexico, he learns that there is also an airborne version of this virus that kills immediately upon inhalation. He has nothing to lose as he's also infected and will die soon himself.

As in Mr. Poston's first book, Contagion pulls out all the stops and is filled with non-stop action, edge of your seat suspense, and a roller coaster ride that doesn't allow you to catch your breath until the end. The author is also skilled at knowing the mechanics of how the alphabet agencies work and shares their protocols during the story. Carl Johnson was an ordinary guy who sold real estate. He was not trained as an assassin or other highly skilled killer, but he manages to be a killing machine.

Highly recommended! There is room for the series to continue as the end leaves the status of the "mastermind" open and readers learning that Carl will pursue and kill that person.

I thoroughly enjoyed American Terrorist: Where is the Girl? and was fully engaged from the opening sentence. The story is about Carl Johnson, a black man, who is seen on the street in New Mexico, was beaten and kidnapped, then tortured for the next 11 days by the CIA. All because he is a dead ringer for a Mexican drug lord who had kidnapped a high ranking government official's daughter. The CIA wants her back and they are confident of breaking the man and extracting the location of the girl. The government finally concedes that they made a mistake and let Carl go. They should have killed him, instead.

The torture had changed the man and now all he wants is revenge, and of course, to find out who the girl is and find her. Carl's crusade turns vindictive when the government uses his son as bait to catch the drug lord; he is ultimately killed by government agents during the raid. So much goes on during this story that it's hard to put down. When Carl finds out the girl's identity - only rescuing her will make things right again. However, he wasn't ready for an elaborate trap that was set-up for him. Carl receives a large sum of money and buys his own Army to deal with this new threat.

Highly recommended! Great job Mr. Poston...downloading the next book in the series.
