Darkly Wood, the title says it all - you know right off the bat something sinister is afoot. Our main character Daisy May is about to find out all about the woods in more than one way.

This is where things become a bit interesting - some chapters deal with Daisy May's current experiences and others take a look back at stories contained in a book she finds Tales of Darkly Wood.

Power's writing in parts was similar to a Dark version of the Wizard of OZ, at least to me. I enjoyed the read! 4.5/5 stars.… (mais)

Max Power has quickly become one of my top ten favourite authors. It takes a certain amount of skill to write a fictional story that is so realistic it could be true to life - mission accomplished in this one!

There is so much emotion packed in every corner - it just hits you as the pages turn. For me the funeral scene was so well described I was mourning too and that ending OMG!

I loved the first book and the second is every bit as good! I do suggest reading them in order as they deal with a family line and a time lapse between events.

A spine-tingling read, best read after-dark! 5/5 stars!

This book was a rather difficult read for me. I wasn’t prepared for the intense inhuman violence. I wasn’t ready for many events which took place in this book. My internal struggle was real. I put the book down numerous times because I couldn’t imagine reading any further. I was still contemplating after having reached the 90% point. But I had to know. I needed to find out why certain people could be so cruel to another human being. I needed to place my trust in the author.

There had to be reasons. This novel embraces the “dark thriller” genre. A certain level of cruelty is necessary to stress the severe degree of torture inflicted upon an individual. The deep seeded need for revenge requires this justification. The author has ensured the reader feels the horror. The reader urges the victim on, silently cheering every small step gained towards freedom.

There are many intricacies of this story. The forecasted hurricane develops as a storm rages inside a Florida penitentiary. Both strengthen as resources are gathered. One person heads to Alabama in search of answers. Another sets out for Ireland to retrieve an ally. The hurricane has set its path. Good finds evil. Death does not discriminate. In all things, balance is necessary. Who wins if the battle ends in a tie? Does winning matter if balance is restored?
