A collective biography of LGBTQ+ people throughout history, from Sappho to Harvey Milk, Leonardo da Vinci to Lynn Conway. Each double page spread includes a full-bleed illustration on the verso, and the person's name, birth dates (and death date, if applicable), a description, a sentence or two explaining their significance, and a quote. The only back matter is an author's note and sources to "learn more" (glbthistory.org, glsen.org, unerased.org, etc.). I would have liked a paragraph on each person, and sources for her quotes, but the youngest readers won't care about those things, and that's who this book is for.

I was just looking over my favorite reads in 2017 and didn't see this book on my Goodreads list. Glad I caught that, because this is an outstanding book and one I highly recommend for readers of all ages although it was written with teens in mind. A great addition to every home, school, and public library. Prager aims for great diversity in this collection of biographies of queer folk who have made a difference in the world, as a result it is not a collection of the names you often see. I, for one, was thrilled to see the woman I was named after, Queen Christina of Sweden, included.… (mais)
