A friend suggested reading Mark Reps, a native of my own state of Minnesota, and gifted me a copy of Native Blood. I was leery as I had tried reading mystery books several times through the years and the genre hasn’t done a thing for me. Out of curtesy, I decided to read this book and was blown over. Exceptional writing is exceptional writing. Mystery just might be my favorite genre after reading an extraordinary book by Mark Reps.

This story had a good, gritty issue but failed to deliver on it. The characters were almost a parody and they did not engage with the issue meaningfully as they were subverted by being characters. The whole town and reservation take on the incidents ended up tedious. There were a few typos.

This review is based on the entire sample offered through Amazon. I enjoyed the sample and might purchase or at least put it on my wish list. The only reason I did not give four stars and purchase immediately was the formatting. It was very distracting.
