Victoria Riskin

One of the best books I've read this year. This joint biography of actress Fay Wray (King Kong) and screenwriter Robert Riskin (It Happened One Night, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town) was done with love but well researched. The author is the daughter of Wray and Riskin. She gives a thorough look at her parent's lives before they met and after they were married in 1942. She had many of the letters between the two during Riskin's service in WWII. She examines the politics that screenwriter's dealt with during the formation of the Screen Writer's Guide as well as the HUAC hearings and blacklist. Both Wray and Riskin's love story is something that doesn't happen all that often and they seemed like two very decent human beings that are to be admired for their loyalty and beliefs. It is a well written book that often made you feel that you were right there in the room with her parent's. There are lots of great photos.… (mais)
