BettyTaylor56 | 1 outra crítica | Feb 26, 2024 | I recently purchased this authors prior books, but this is the first one I have read and I made a fabulous choice.
Going in I thought this would be your typical Rom-Com but this charming and laugh out loud book, was far from typical. The author made the characters come alive and completely relatable to so many women, in regards to weight, mothers, family dynamics, work life, siblings and so many more topics that we all can relate to on some degree.
Perfect fun beach read!

GeauxGetLit | 1 outra crítica | May 27, 2023 | OMG. Quite a book and I finished in two days. I couldn't put it down but had to to go on with my life. LOL
Crazy family shenanigans. The author is a genius. I laughed at every thing Marcy, the mother in this family said. Amanda, was getting married to her almost ex-husbands lawyer, Jake, who she met by accident while going to the airport to meet her friend. Surprise since Amanda was there to see Jake even though Marcy was supposed to see and meet her a few days ahead.
Harvey, was her almost ex-husband and had a bra business and a big "macher" Yiddish for a person who is influential or important.
I loved every character and Jake's parents Mug and Bernie were hilarious and she called Mrs. Burger "Mrs. Burglar." You have to read the book to understand this.
I need to read Lift and Separate, her first book since I'm sure it's the first in this series just by the title which I figured out after I read this book obviously.… (mais)

sweetbabyjane58 | 6 outras críticas | Mar 13, 2023 | I tried multiple times to read this book....
While it is well-written and had some great humorous moments, the story just isn't for me. Not every book is for every reader. This one isn't my style or what I enjoy. So....I'm DNF'ing this one at 70%.
Readers who like chick lit or stories about women overcoming divorce, extreme life changes, dealing with aging, empty nest syndrome....this is a cute book. Just because it isn't for me doesn't mean it isn't a good book.
Good writing. Interesting characters and premise. Just not for me.....… (mais)

The story follows forty-one-year-old Lauren Leo, who finds herself standing at the altar in her wedding gown, only to be blindsided by a text message from her groom, leaving her unceremoniously dumped. As Lauren navigates the aftermath of this humiliating experience, she grapples with her relationship with her family, her struggles with body image, and her journey towards self-acceptance and empowerment.
Rothstein's writing style is engaging and humorous, effortlessly blending humor, romance, and serious themes. Lauren is a compelling protagonist, and I found her to be relatable and authentic, with her sharp wit and fierce determination shining through. The portrayal of Lauren's relationships with her friends, sisters, and mother adds depth to the narrative.
One of the standout aspects of the novel is its exploration of real-life issues, such as body image, family dynamics, and workplace sexism, with sensitivity and humor. Rothstein tackles these topics with a light touch, allowing readers to laugh and empathize with the characters while still recognizing the seriousness of the underlying issues.
The pacing of the novel kept me engaged from start to finish. While romance is a part of the storyline, it is not the sole focus.
This book is perfect for anyone looking for a light-hearted yet thought-provoking read that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love and self-acceptance. Highly recommended!… (mais)
