A bear shifter as a town sheriff is interesting enough, in my mind, to want to read this story. But then he is also the head of the local bearshifter clan, owns most of the land in the vicinity, and has an issue with the thought of mating. Of course he ends up running into a “city boy” who has been sent to town to persuade him to sell the land to a real estate developer – said boy’s father – and the newcomer’s scent soon drives him crazy. Not to mention the lust he feels, and both ring major alarm bells in the sheriff’s mind. Too bad there is nothing much he can do… and I had great fun watching him try to wriggle his way out of it!

Connor is the youngest of three sons and ever since he came out to his family, his father treats him like dirt, and while one brother and Connor’s mother stick with him, the other brother is as bad as his dad. Connor gets all the sh*tty jobs, no recognition, and when he is sent to Falcon’s Ridge to persuade the owner of the land his father wants to finally sell, Connor is not exactly chomping at the bit. His first few encounters with Caleb, who prefers to be called Falcon and is the town sheriff, are hilarious. Connor falls in lust even knowing he can’t stay – or can he?

Falcon will never sell his ancestral lands in northern Georgia. He and his clan love it there and money, to them, is not everything. The lust he feels for Connor is stronger than anything he has ever experienced before, but Falcon is determined not to give in. Until his inner bear leaves him no choice… and Falcon needs his grandmother’s advice to figure things out. Not that there is much to figure – a mate bond is a mate bond and separation is dangerous. Not that Connor knows this, and Falcon refuses to tell him, so they have to learn the hard way.

If you like shifter stories, if a bearshifter and a city-bound human seem like an interesting couple, and if you’re looking for a fun read that has a good balance between humor and heat, then you will probably like this novella.

The bearshifters of Falcon’s Ridge are back for a second story, and it’s one I was looking forward to. This story begins about four months after Falcon, the town sheriff and head of the local bear clan, and Connor, former city boy and newly minted writer, get together. They are still in the honeymoon phase and I loved seeing glimpses of their life. But the focus is on Falcon’s twin brother, Gabe. He was mentioned a few times in book one, as was the guy he is “casually” seeing, and since I was pretty sure they were way beyond casual before this book even started, I was hoping for some fireworks. I am happy to report that I got those – and some extra surprises on top.

Gabe is an artist. He has been working with a gallery in Atlanta who sells his art and has gotten pretty close to Blake, one of their employees. And yes, you remember correctly, he is Connor’s best friend. Not that Gabe has a clue, but the longer they see each other, the more interested Gabe becomes. But then a woman he dated before Blake lets him know she is pregnant and doesn’t want the baby, and Gabe’s focus changes to making sure he gets to take care of the kid.

Blake used to be a player, he of the infamous Brazilian – don’t ask! – but the longer he sees Gabe, the more he thinks he might want a more permanent relationship with this man. Unfortunately Gabe sort of withdraws and stops calling, Blake loses his job, and since they have never spoken about anything serious, disaster is about to strike. Luckily the author had a few twists up her sleeves and I was treated to the wonderfully convoluted path to happiness Blake and Gabe create together.

If you like bearshifters who have no idea they have met their mate, if two players who are ready to change their tune are your thing, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with more than one surprising turn and lots of hot loving, then you will probably like this novella.

I made it to 50% before giving up. This book cannot be read as a standalone. Characters from the first 3 books played pretty big roles in this book and I was a little confused. Given the fact I have no real desire to read the first 2 books, I'm going to go ahead and shelf this one did not finish. The story did not interest me enough to continue further and put in the time and effort to get to know the other characters.

I will not rate this because it did not give it my full attention.… (mais)
