The Wind Guardian is a thoroughly enjoyable, action-packed thriller which is well written and researched. The author's knowledge of the the main subject, as well as the obviously well-researched ancillary points/plots/sub-plots comes shining through as you read. When Mr Scozzari writes of the weapons used or the local coastline and it's wildlife, the history of the indigenous Chumash Indians, or the thought processes and experiences of terrorists, one feels that it is almost from a position of personal experience, the descriptions are so intense and vivid.
This is an edgy, gripping tale which consumes the reader right from the very beginning. The nuclear industry provides the fuel we need to live, thrive and survive. It is essential in the modern era, some would argue a necessary evil due to population growth and global warming. However, it is also intensely vulnerable to attack. A fact known to friend and foe alike.
The basic premise for this novel is everyone's worst nightmare; a terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant. The only thing standing in the terrorist's way are a bunch of highly trained but, as we soon come to realise, flawed security guards. An attack is launched and it's anyone's guess as to how it will turn out.
What follows is a dangerous game of cat and mouse, where the lines are drawn and blurred beyond recognition at times, and it's hard to tell the bad from good.
The characters are so very well developed they draw you in to the story. The suspense builds slowly and effortlessly at first, but it is then unleashed mercilessly onto the suspecting reader. You know what's coming and yet there are surprises and twists which keep you reading on for more.
Highly recommended.

As soon as I read about the intertwined skeletons at the beginning I knew I was going to love this book. It’s not at all what I expected which is what makes it so brilliant.

This is excellent writing, I was completely engrossed in Morgan’s Russian adventure and raced through this book in no time. Morgan seems to be quite an unlucky guy, so there are many moments of hilarity when his visit to Russia doesn’t go as planned. I really admired him when he chose one of the Russian ladies to correspond with, when most of the other American men he meets on the plane were hedging their bets by corresponding with lots of women. It just shows how loyal and monogamous he intended to be right from the start, and gives all single ladies hope that there are some genuinely nice guys out there.

Near the end of his trip, Morgan seemed right at home in Saint Petersburg and it seemed only right that he, as a Californian, experienced a Russian snowfall. The writing was so beautiful that I could almost feel the snowflakes on my face. I loved the stark contrast between the poverty of the residential areas and the beauty of the tourist sites. I’ll not spoil the story by giving any more of it away but it’s really worth reading.

This was clearly very well researched and at the end of the book I found myself heading off to google to find out more about some of the sites mentioned, e.g. Bridge of Kisses, Church of the Spilt Blood, The Hermitage Museum, Mikhailovsky Castle and the Palace Square, to name but a few. Perhaps not a conventional way to meet your future partner but love knows no bounds and rather philosophically we are reminded that “Half the distance around the earth is only two centimeters on a map”.

A wonderful read that reminds us to follow our heart wherever it may lead.

I received this e-book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved Frank Scozzari’s previous novel, From Afar, so I didn’t hesitate when I was invited to read his next book. The Wind Guardian was clearly meticulously researched and so thorough that I almost feel like I could now apply to work in a nuclear power plant myself.

It started off with the murder of a security guard and continued at a hundred miles an hour, barely giving the reader time to draw breath. As soon as the security pass has been stolen at the murder scene, and the night shift commences, the air is crackling with so much tension as you wait for the inevitable to happen.

Two of the guards have a mutual attraction and decide to meet up during their shift. I loved the couldn’t-care-less attitude of Cameron and Grace as they experienced the excitement of new love. Without spoiling the story, it falls to Cameron and Grace to save the whole plant when it comes under attack. It is only due to them sneaking away to a dead zone for a bit of a canoodle that they survive the initial onslaught.

With terrorism so much on our minds now, this book is so realistic that it does actually give you chills while you are reading. The lengths that people will go to for their beliefs or for money is quite astounding. At the end of the book, when I finally caught my breath, I was thinking of what might have happened had the plan succeeded. As much as this story is a 'what might have been', it could very easily be something that might happen.

This story is written with so much tension; it’s fast paced and gripping. It has an enough of a human element with Cameron and Grace’s story without it being too mushy. I think it would make a really good film or tv mini-series and I wouldn't be surprised to see this snapped up and on our screens at some time in the future.

I really have to applaud Frank for writing two very different books; both are excellent and unputdownable for very different reasons. Frank Scozzari is certainly one to watch.

I received this e-book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The writing is really poignant and the war scenes are intensely graphic. This isn't exactly a genre that I usually read but it was indeed well written without typos or grammatical errors. However the book lost a lot of it's impact with me because it kept on flipping scenes without intermediate break marks. Short stories don't have a lot of time to make you get to know the characters and sadly I was unable to fully get to know the protagonist Nick. The scene flipping only alienated me even more which is unfortunate because otherwise it was easily a solid 4 star read.

The book isn't a PC fluff piece, it's a graphic war story of 2 veteran American soldiers that were training child soldiers in Sarajevo with the UN's blessing. If you love the UN, you might dislike this book which takes on several jabs against the organization. I liked the touching love story of two muslim teenagers the soldiers were training that they took with them to the mountain side when their village was attacked. I felt a stronger connection with Nadia over Nick to be honest.

The scene where Nick buries John in the forest on an unspecified portion of western USA that faces the pacific ocean is probably the most fantasious element of the book. Knowing the USA, it's illegal to steal a body and bury it in some random place. You sort of need a gazillion permits these days.

I think this is a book that is best enjoyed knowing the ending of the plot and reading it more than once. Maybe I'll read it a second time now that I know the ending and appreciate the quality prose.
