She has also been active in Clan MacColin and the Kriegshunde Fähnlein, and directed both performance and costume. In the Society for Creative Anachronism, where she is Mistress Máirghrèad-Rós FitzGarret of Desmond (O.L.), for three years she edited Tournaments Illuminated, the quarterly journal of the Society.
A technical writer by trade, Maggie has a Master's degree from California State University, Northridge. She is also a working poet, with poems published in little magazines no one ever heard of. The story also follows Silence Carew, an odd man of 15th c. London who also sees mermaids, and who feels they are a threat to his ultimate salvation.
The story winds through the two tales, revealing more about realms of Faeryland Ben had not seen before, and perhaps new to Raven as well.
I read this book as I was traveling in and around London, where it is set. I too, encountered mermaids (or at least, their depictions) in my travels. I enjoyed the story and I enjoyed my travels, and the juxtaposition of the two in time and space was delightful.… (mais)
