America's institutions of higher education still hold a top-tier status throughout the world. This draws an ever-increasing number of international students - primarily from Asia, but spread throughout - to US colleges and universities. Some speak English as their primary language, others describe English as a second language but have outstanding English speaking/listening skills. Another group have limited proficiency in English - and attempting to read/write/listen in English limits their ability to show instructors what they know and can do. The increase in international students has many positive benefits as well. The ability to discuss life in another part of the world with someone who has lived there and who fully understands the social structure of the area helps other students gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the opportunities and challenges one might face in that region. This short book helps faculty think about how to be inclusive in developing in-class assignments, written exams or papers, and other means of informal and formal assessment.
