From the time of snow-melts and all the way to autumn, about 1500 species of native wild flowers bloom here. The authors state that this area has not been covered by marine waters or glacial ice, because it happens to be in one of the oldest mountain masses. Subtropical families of flowers from pre-glacial times continue to grow here.
The book contains of approximately 140 color photos and short descriptions of wild blossoms including Botanical names. Directions on how to find them and the month(s) they bloom are also given. They are one of the most distinctive features of the Smoky Mountains.
