Neal Shusterman

I had read the first book of this series, before becoming a teacher. I loved it! Then, I reread the first book again this year because my goal is to actually the series one after another (or close to it). Having read UnWholly, the second book in the series, it really makes me wonder if we're not heading in this direction or some form of this outcome. A lot of the key factors that lead the "Heartland War" are some of the factors we are starting to in today's society.

There's a lot that rings true in this book. From "feral teens" causing mayhem in society, to "part pirates" this book and series has a lot reality weaved into it. It actually gave me mild anxiety.

In terms of the second book, Shuesterman really delivered. I will admit that it was a slow build at first, but if you stick with it, you won't be disappointed. I did find myself having to look back at the first book to remember some of the characters but once I remembered who was who, everything fell into place. This books gives up a even deeper look at to how "unwinding" became a reality and how easy it was to have society accept it.

Shuesterman really knows how to create tension, build up the climax, and leave you hanging on every word right to the very end. I can't wait to dig into the 3rd book...I'm almost scared to get to the end of the series (even though there's 5 books in the series). Honestly this book and series would make for an excellent movie!… (mais)
