“Twenty years ago it was impossible to imagine the president of the United States embracing same-sex marriage or Bruce Jenner transitioning to Caitlyn Jenner, an open transgender woman.”
LGBTQ Stats is filled with a plethora of information. With how much society has grown to accept people of all sexualities and genders, this book is essential for many types of people. Topics range from discrimination in the work place to education and from immigration to criminal justice.

There’s even accounts of how much criticism the USA has gotten from countries who sentence same sex couples to death. I particularly was interested in the changed regulations for gay men regarding giving blood as well as President Barack Obama’s role in the new decision.

For the journalist, the activist, the advocate, the lawyer or the reader, LGBTQ Stats is filled to the brim with statistics and information, in just over 200 pages.

Documentary on Bayard Rustin, best-remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington.

This is a nice companion book for the Up documentary series (through 42 Up, it has now filmed through 49 Up), but little else. Each of the individuals that appear in 42 Up have a series of interview Q&As asked and answered from each of the documentaries in which they appeared. This means that neither Charles nor John make an appearance in the book as Charles stopped appearing after 21 Up and John had apparently had enough charity donations the year 42 Up was filmed and wouldn't appear again until 49 Up. Unfortunately, there's nothing in the book that you won't find in the documentaries. The only real advantage is this is sort of the cliff-notes version of these individuals from 7 to 42 in about 14 pages each. Without the context of the documentaries, I can't imagine that it is all that compelling, but it is a nice walk down memory lane if you have seen them. And it is definitely a series of documentaries worth watching.… (mais)
