Overall, this book has great information and is somewhat engaging. It provides great and accurate detail to science of motion and other STEM aspects which is a great thing. The only thing is that it lacks creativity and could be viewed as “boring” to some students. On the other hand, it is specifically about basketball. This is great because if you have a class where a majority of them have an interest in basketball then this is great! I would even suggest it as a silent reading book for some students I know find joy or have an interest in basketball. It not only gets them interested because of basketball, but teaches them about STEM aspects.… (mais)

Part of the Build It Yourself series this book focuses on games and includes several activities for further exploration. Geared for upper elementary aged readers Game Logic covers more than I anticipated and pleasantly I now have a better understanding of gaming. The book begins with history and modern games and later game design, development and the future. Chapter Three was particularly fascinating as it dives into why people love games and the psychology of playing them. Lots of photos, words to know, QR codes and extra material offered further education. The book includes a timeline, a variety of resources and several glossary pages. Other books in the series include Video Games, Bots, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Strongly recommended for STEM/STEAM in schools and libraries and all of the activities can be done at home making this a valuable resource for homeschooling families.… (mais)

Review of eBook

Part of the Tech Bytes series, “Reusable Rockets” takes middle grade readers from the days of Sputnik to the cutting edge of craft under development by private companies such as Space X and Blue Origin. With an accelerated reader level range of 6.0-6.9, the book is suitable for students in grades four through six who are interested in rockets and space exploration.

Divided into four chapters, the book introduces readers to the history of rockets, tells how rockets are making history, discusses the challenges of additional flights, and then looks at using reusable rockets today and what the future holds for them. Each section includes several “Did You Know?” mini-fact boxes relevant to the information presented in the section. Photographs, many full-page, supplement and support the information in each chapter. This science information book provides readers with relevant information presented in a straightforward manner that students will find easy to understand.

A short list of books and websites for additional reading is included following the text.

Recommended.
