Extremely happy with this find, which I feel really supplements the Wheelock's course.

As a teaching resource, Wheelock's has its challenges but with able pupils and a surrounding context of Roman history studies it really can be fantastic. And the collection of additional texts designed to support the core Wheelock's textbook is now satisfyingly extensive: the student workbook, the 38 Latin Stories volume of simple tales, the more varied Scribblers, Sculptors, and Scribes and the Reader for after the textbook is complete. Having all of these at one's disposal provides the majority of material needed to ground a student in Latin (alongside the usual texts that Americans call 'AP', such as Caesar, Livy, Virgil, and Ovid).

This volume brings something new and highly desirable: a wealth of sentences, paragraphs, and excerpts from post-classical Latin. The book is keyed to each of the Wheelock's chapters, using their structure and orthography with additional elements such as difficulty ratings for each sentence. This is followed by, as in the textbook, "Loci Immutati", to allow for further study. Excerpts are taken from a range of post-classical texts, largely of course scriptural or medieval but including some amusements such as excerpts from the Latin translation of Lewis Carroll. Additionally, grammar is included here that is not covered in Wheelock's, to ensure students are better prepared for the next step on their journey.

A wise edition.
