Arthur Shearly Cripps was an Anglican missionary priest in Rhodesia from 1901-1953, a vital period in that country's development. Differing completely from the conventional idea of a missionary and often impatient of ecclesiastical authority, Cripps identified himself completely with the African people. He lived and slept as they did and was their champion against exploitation by the white settlers. Time and again he was successful in removing abuses and in obtaining modification of laws which would have favored them at the expense of the Africans. - from book jacket… (mais)
