Edward Step (1855–1931)

Published in 1919 Insect Artizans and Their Work is divided up into 13 sections each devoted to a particular art of insects; Spinners & Weavers, Miners, Masons, Carpenters and Wood-workers, Upholsterers, Wax-workers, Paper-makers, Tailors, Horticulturists, Sanitary Officers, Musicians, Buglars and finally Lamp-bearers. There's also a full index of every insect mentioned in the book.

I found this to be a rather interesting book to read which gave a glimpse into the insect world that you usually wouldn't consider, and a review of certain species which we also don't see here in Australia which in itself was also of interest.

The primary things I took away from reading this was a new appreciation for wasps and also learning that glow-worms are in fact not actual worms, something I wasn't aware of, although admittedly my knowledge of glow-worms is pretty much limited to learning as a child that you had to turn the torch off and be quiet for them to glow.

Would recommend for anyone with a passing interest in learning some more about the insects around us.… (mais)
