Footprints in Time, A History of Lassen Volcanic National Park is a nonfiction book that tells the history and geological aspects of Lassen. It starts off with the Native Americans, such as the Yahi, Yana, Atsugewi, and Maidu, the fur trade in the area, and early settlers, like Peter Lassen, the namesake of the peak. The book then discusses the geological surveys and early use of the land. After that, it talks about the volcanic activity and eruption of Lassen Peak. It then tells about the parks actual creation as a national park. The book then speaks of a period of neglect and decline in the park. After, it tells of the restoration of the park. It finally ends with the modern day and conclusion.
I enjoyed this book very much. However, I am not the biggest fan of nonfiction books and might have a biased opinion. Still, this book had useful information (escpecially during a national parks project I had to do recently). The organization of the book is well thought out, too. I can't say that this was favorite book, but still was great to read and research with. Overall, this was a good book.
