George Cross is a very interesting protagonist. His "disability" gives him a different set of skills, a narrower focus, a greater awareness when something doesn't fit. This is the first in a series and already the characters are strong, as was the plot.

Yet another cleverly plotted DS Cross story with twists and turns all the way through. A monk is murdered with what appears to be puzzling motives and gives Cross the opportunity to restore the Monastery's church organ, whilst investigating the Monk's colleagues and life for clues. As always Cross manages to upset most people he meets with his bluntness, despite his colleagues' efforts to soften his approach. Entertaining with well-drawn characters.

As always clever plotting and believable characters. A former public school master is killed and there are no shortage of people who could have had a motive. Cross's investigation is compromised by an arrogant DI from Kent who insists on riding roughshod over Cross and his close colleagues, but Cross ultimately solves the murder. Several contemporary themes cleverly woven into the plot, as well as the author 's experience of prep school.

Well written, excellent character descriptions, well paced. I will read all of the DS Cross series and try other books by Tim Sullivan.
