Dreaming About Mocha is a cute story about a little girl named Florence. Florence's greatest desire is to have a dog, any dog will do, even a dog that nobody else wants. Florence's mom and dad are worried about the mess and destruction that comes with a dog so they do not have one. One day, when Florence is playing in her backyard, she hears something in the bushes and out peeks a brown, furry dog. Florence hides the dog in her room and sneaks food from the table to feed him. When he makes a mess (muddy dog prints all over the house), mother follows the trail and finds Florence and the dog. That is when we find out that the dog has a collar and tag and his name is "Mocha". Florence takes great care of Mocha, playing with him and teaching him things, while Mom and Dad put up signs that they have found a dog. What will Florence do if the owner shows up? What if the owner wants him back? What if the owner is nice?

This story is very simple, yet very sweet. The illustrations are drawn very simply, but with cuter pictures that will attract the interest of children. Florence is lovable and most children will instantly relate to her desire for a pet. This book is aimed at children ages 4 and up and I believe that is a great fit. This would be a great read aloud in a kindergarten classroom to begin a discussion and theme on pets, taking care of animals, lost animals and more.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
