Born in Philadelphia in 1950, Brother John joined the Taizé Community in 1974. He spends much of his time in Taizé helping the young adults who take part in the international meetings there to learn how to read the Bible as a source of meaning for their own life. In the 1980s he was part of a small group of Taizé brothers who were living in Hell’s Kitchen on the West Side of Manhattan. He continues to travel in the United States and Italy for meetings and retreats for young adults. Brother John has written seven books on Biblical topics discussed in the meetings in Taizé; they have been translated into a dozen languages.

My Great Uncle wrote this and the copy is currently ciruclating the family. Philosophy isn't really my things so I had some trouble grasping parts. The book was very well written and good source of vocab.

The tale is a story of touching emotions that is envolved in everyone's life, love, lost, and the desire to understand the world around us. The main character John loses the love his life, his wife, friend, and mother of his grown daughter Helen. To take a break of the haunting memories that fill his home John with his loyal friend, his dog takes a vacation to the beach. One day taking a walk with the loving creature he meets Sophia who helps John work out his feelings in addition to figuring out the bigger picture of humans and notion of the afterlife. Each page will have you challenging yourself to think to find the bigger picture.

Brother John creates characters that the readers will feel relatable to. the emotions in the book are true to any person whether they have experienced something that deep or not. The scenes are very vivid that the readers feel as if they are standing on the beach along the side of John on his journey of life.

If you are into theories about life and the after life this book is for you. Again there are no stars because it wasn't bad, but because I'm not quite sure how to rate the book of this genre.

(mais)
