She was educated in a private school until the age of 16. At 23, she began to study nursing. She also wrote poetry, and published her first collection, Trans-Viscère-Express, in 1970. After this, she left her job as a nurse to become a taxi driver and freelance journalist for Charlie Hebdo, L'Humanité, and other publications. She gained fame in 1974 with the publication of her successful novel Hosto-blues, In 1982, she won the Prix Jean Macé for teaching for her novel Staboulkash. She has since published about 20 more works.
