To an appalling degree, I learned how to costume out of this book. It was the first I encountered that showed how to modify basic slopers into period pattern shapes. This was an important book in my journey as a costumer; however, that was 40 years ago, and the information/technology is now out of date.

This book offers a basic guide to making stage costumes from patterns. Special emphasis on the Elizabethan, Colonial, and Victorian periods with helpful guides to making crinolines, hoops, etc. for creating the proper silhoutte of the time.
