Really enjoyed this book. Firstly it was a nice change to have the story told from the man's point of view. And unlike a lot of vampire based stories it was neither overly violent or unnecessarily gratuitous. I found it overall very sweet with some lovely touches of humour

Maybe English vampire books just have another feel to them, or maybe it was because Nathaniel totally pulled off Mr Darcy ;) Either was it was a good vampire novel that felt fresh in an era when that's hard.

These vampires survive on pig's blood and do not feel. Because when you are that old feelings will just drag you down. In comes Nathaniel, our 200 old vampire (an Earl too btw). He tries his best to be modern but has trouble with it. Instead he tends to go a bit Mr Darcy, which was totally adorable and made me giggle. He is truly the perfect gentleman.

Rowan, the heroine, says what she feels and when they meet, and crash. Something happens. These two are meant to be and to see him try to court her, yes adorable. There could have been a bit of a stalker warning because of how he wanted to protect her, but when you realize all the facts in the end it makes sense. Some are just meant to be. And to feel after having not feel for 200 years, well it gets a bit intense.

Something else is also at play in this book. I can't say too much, but yes all is not as it should be.

A delightful nove

I liked how the plot unfolded in this one. But then I did always loved past lives stories.

The heroine is Susie, who does not believe in love after her friend showed her a past horrid life and now she is all tormented. No true love, and she certainly does not believe in past lives either even though she saw it.

Our hero is George, a world famous actor who is super hot! He is dragged by his sister to Rachel (who showed Susie her past life too), meets Susie and the scene is set. The romance is a crazy whirlwind. He is totally utterly in love with Susie. While Susie has a hard time believing it, I mean he is hot and famous, she is no model. I do get her fears.

But on their side is Rachel and George's sister Cassie. And through them we also get the whole past life story and what really happened then. There is also something very sinister going on. There is a darkness over their love story and they will not have it easy.

Two loves reunited in another lifetime for a chance at love again

Didn’t finish. Didn’t rate.

The attention-grabbing opening consists of an off-colour remark and a confusing description of a car accident seen through the confused mind of a confused vampire. Which results in confusion.

The perplexed reader is then assaulted with several pages of indiscriminate italicisation. The effect is excrutiating, like having to listen to a pitchy singer with hiccups.

The author eventually gets her italics under control, but the narrative drags with rambling dialogues that neither develop character nor propel the story forward.

Lack of control—that’s the impression I got from the first half of this book. Where was the editor when she or he was needed? A little firm blue pencilling would have worked wonders.

Perhaps the job description has changed. Perhaps ‘editor’ now means someone who motivates aspiring authors with compliments and cups of coffee.
