W. Outram Tristram (1859–1915)

A book filled with commentary about travel and roads and social history, told in an entertaining manner, along with many wonderful illustrations. A great find for anyone interested in English history. Front pastedown has the armorial bookplate of John Buchanan Hinshaw, a Conservative MP of the last century from Much Woolton, a suburb of Liverpool.

Interesting book. I love the feel of its papers and the black and white illustrations. There are 365 of them, mostly small though.
This book told tales following seven routes (Bath, Exeter, Portmouth, Brighton, Dover, York and Holyhead) all starting from London. The inns along the way and social commentary and tiny bit of people in those days.
My main complaint was sometimes it's hard to read, the vocabularies were bit strange. But that's my own fault, I think.… (mais)
