Joe Grabarz p.i. recognises the body that has washed up on Brighton beach as his old friend who he has not seen in ten years. He investigates to find out why and and how is friend got involved in drugs.
An interesting story.

A private investigator’s childhood best friend turns up brutally murdered. Was it the same bullies who terrorized them as boys. This first-person narrative works in this story. I would read book 2 in the series.

I don't remember how I came across this book. It could have been an Amazon Prime Reading offer or it could have been on one of the e-mail lists that show free and discounted e-books. I was a bit surprised when I read the blurb just before starting the book--to be fair, at the end of the blurb, they do warn you that there's language, sex, etc. Overall, I just thought there was too much bad language in the narrative too early on. I didn't yet care about the characters and I didn't see what the character's need was to have that language--I wasn't sure how it fit the character.

I don't see myself seeking out other books in this series or looking for more books by this author.

The author does have a distinctive style of writing and if that appeals to you, you'd probably enjoy this book more than I did.
