Not terrible, not great. The werewolf society is interesting, but a little sketchy (in the sense of "not many details"). I do enjoy stories of abuse survivors learning to trust again, and there are some interesting relationships - but the sex is too explicit for my taste (and M/M, which is even less interesting than explicit M/F to me). And after the relationship is established, the Alpha gets extremely dumb and decides that the abuse survivor doesn't need to know what the problems are - which means he is dealing with people (in the pack) who blame him for problems he has no idea about, and his solution (because he hasn't been told) puts him and several others into severe danger. Can you say worst possible choice, by the Alpha? I might be interested in reading other books in this universe, if the author can improve on this story - I'd like to see some of those details filled in.… (mais)

Different from the first book, this story is "desperate-to-mate guy finds partner unwilling to consider a relationship". I found it heartbreaking to watch Micah, who was kicked out of his birth pack because he interacted with a human, finally settle down and find a man he really liked - only to find out that Shea wasn't even interested. And even though Shea rejects him again and again, he can't stop falling deeper in love.

Shea is an interesting guy. At first glance, he is cold to the point of being inhuman, but he isn't evil. He is just utterly socially incompetent, and it takes his wolf waking up before Shea even GETS what Micah means to him. And even once he realizes what is going on, he struggles with his reaction and actually dealing with the situation. A very interesting look at things from an unusual perspective!

If you like werewolf stories of the more civilized kind, if you prefer a straightforward plot with lots of drama, rejection, and desperation, and if you're looking for a hot "geek figures out how to relate to his lover" read, then you will probably like this novella.

As far as I am concerned, this third book in the 'Pack Mates' series is the best so far. Not only do some of the characters from the previous books come back so I can see how they're doing, but there are also some major revelations and two great new main characters. I mean, who can resist a big, bad werewolf who has three small girls to raise, not to mention the super hot tiger manny who comes in to save the day? I certainly can't!

Grayson does the best he can with his young nieces, but managing three young children while working all hours as an ER nurse is not easy. Grayson has the help of other members of his pack (especially Alpha Declan and his mate Quinn), but he is proud and hates asking for help all the time. So he decides to hire a nanny - only to find one of the most powerful tiger shifters around applying for the position. It may take Grayson a while to get used to the man, but he isn't complaining!

Shannon has been kicked out of his pride because he is so powerful the alpha felt threatened. Power is the last thing he wants though, he loves kids and when he gets hired by Grayson, he is over the moon. The scenes between him and Declan are hilarious - Shannon exudes so much power, the alpha could easily feel threatened. Luckily Declan is secure in his leadership and can see how much Shannon doesn't want to take over Smooth Rock Falls pack.

If you like shifter stories with cross-species matings, if you enjoy reading about men who try to raise young children on their own, only to admit they need help, and if you're looking for a cute, exciting, and definitely hot read, then you will probably like this novella.

This fifth book in the ‘Pack Mates’ series is another great addition to the continuing story of the Smooth Rock Falls pack. The hints about another omega being moved into Alpha Declan and his mate Omega Quinn’s protection have proven to be fact, and with Pierce the tiger omega now on pack lands, things are bound to become even more interesting. And not just because Pierce has brought his own group of four bodyguards and their issues with him, but because there is a kidnapper on the prowl and suddenly both Pierce and Quinn are in danger.

Pierce has been under tiger council protection since they took him away from his family when he was only ten years old. I think that was an utterly cruel thing to do, but I guess they had good intentions. Pierce has suffered loneliness and isolation because of it, so for him, coming to Smooth Rock Falls and gaining at least some personal freedom is a relief. Pack security is tight enough for him to be able to move around a little, and while it helps, lack of personal freedom isn’t his only problem. Having Gavin around all the time may just be a lot more than Pierce is ready to deal with.

Gavin has been in love with Pierce as long as he can remember, but his father didn’t want him to tie himself down, so he ran away to university, breaking Pierce’s heart. He didn’t do himself any favors either, because trying to forget Pierce by sleeping around was no help at all. Now that Gavin is older and makes up his own mind he manages to become one of the bodyguards who moved with Pierce—but the emotional torture isn’t over. Pierce is hesitant, Gavin’s tiger has his own ideas, and the continuing threats to Pierce’s safety are enough to drive Gavin crazy with worry.

If you like main characters who need to deal with their past as well as their own preconceptions and fears before they can become a couple, if you want to see them struggle for understanding themselves and each other, and if you're looking for an emotional read that is sweet, hot, and suspenseful all at the same time, then you will probably enjoy this novella.
