Diana Urban is an author of dark, twisty thrillers, including All Your Twisted Secrets (HarperTeen), These Deadly Games (Wednesday Books), and a to-be-announced third novel. Her novels have been published internationally, and she’ll be featured in the Firsts and Lasts anthology (Penguin Workshop, 2023). When she’s not torturing fictional characters, she freelances in content writing and digital marketing. She lives with her husband and cat in Boston and enjoys reading, playing video games, fawning over cute animals, and looking at the beach from a safe distance.

95% of this book takes place in 24 hours. There is a group of six teenagers who are on an E-sports team, but they need to be down to five. They are having a contest to decide which get to play in next week’s tournament. Big prize money is on the line. However, nothing goes according to plan when Cristal gets a message from a special app on her phone saying play my game or your sister dies. What proceeds is 24 hours of Cristal playing a game of life and death. A game of choosing who is more important, your family or your best friends. This is a thriller that moves quickly. While it is well done it, it’s more of a “why done it" then a “how done it”. Mainly because it’s obvious from the beginning what is bringing about this game. I also think it’s easy to tell who the real dangerous one is. However, it was still a fun read that many teens will find exciting. And while it does not exactly end on a cliffhanger, it does leave itself wide open for a sequel. I really thought this would be much more about a group of people playing a deadly game rather than one person, but it works together well and fits within its tropes decently.… (mais)

What a uniquely grotesque and atmospheric YA thriller! It added another spot to my bucket list. (But I'll definitely do the legal tour!)

When Ruby sneaks out to attend an illegal party in the catacombs, she and her classmates are hoping for a thrill and to get some content for Ruby's social media channel. It doesn't hurt that their tour guide is a hot teenage boy, either. But a wrong turn and an accident soon turn their outing from thrilling to terrifying. When they begin to be chased by menacing figures in skeleton masks with knives, it's not long before Ruby begins to wonder if any of them will make it out alive.

I can't think of a better location to add the creepy factor in spades. Illegal hidden tunnels below Paris built out of bones? Coming across numerous skulls and trapped deep below ground? When one character says, "Sometimes you have to go down a level to go up," I got chills. This book's deep sense of place will make you feel like you're crawling through the catacombs alongside these characters.

There's a slight romantic subplot, as Ruby's crush works on the surface to find clues as to how she could have disappeared so thoroughly.

A nailbiter of a thriller with a satisfying conclusion, this is a must-read for YA fans!

Thank you to BookishFirst and the publisher for the advance review copy of this book.

"All Your Twisted Secrets" was a compelling YA mystery that kept me engaged until the end. The story moved from the present where six are trapped in a room with a bomb and a clock ticking down to zero, to the past giving different moments over the past year.

While the present chapters were nail-biting as the teens try to decide who is going to die within the hour, I also found the flashback chapters interesting as they gave a good insight into the various characters, the relationships between them and what they did to end up in the situation they find themselves in. Bullying, suicide, drugs, peer pressure, ambitions and parental expectations were all big themes throughout the novel and each character had been affected by at least one of them.

The characters were fairly stereotypical and were all flawed. Each of them had done things they shouldn't have but some were nicer than others, especially Diego, who was my favourite. I was unsurprised when the person who had set the trap was revealed. I had already worked out who it was, but I still found "All Your Twisted Secrets" a fun thriller with many twists and secrets. A great debut.
