I was kind of lucky to get to read this book. I had seen it in the Maryknoll Bookstore and wanted to read it but didn't want to buy it, being a poor college student. My friend bought it to read and I got to read it 1st. I'm kind of sorry I did.

I didn't enjoy it at all. I felt that the information was misleading and inaccurate. The author says at one point "Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers (also known as the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America)" (29). The actual name of Maryknoll is the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America and Maryknoll is the orders "nickname".

There is so much that the author leaves out -- like the beautiful history of Maryknoll and where the name "Maryknoll" comes from. More important things, in my opinion, then this author's* liberals beliefs on how the Catholic Church represses women by not allowing them to be ordained. (*I don't know if this is a belief held by the society as a whole or if it is just this one man's soap box.)

I'm perplex ... I love Maryknoll. I support Maryknoll. But after reading this book I don't feel like I know "her" at all. I feel like I just read a lover's diary and "she" said all the wrong things ... I "see" a disconnect between what this author has written and what I have experienced and observed from other articles/writings from Maryknoll and about Maryknoll, and from visiting their headquarters in ... Maryknoll, NY.

I would NOT suggest this book to anyone, certainly not anyone who doesn't know about Maryknoll or already have a love affair with "her".
