This slim volume offers insight into counseling African-Americans through the lens of Philip’s encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts chapter 8. Although far from an exegetical masterpiece, Walker’s text provides many useful observations of African-American culture and appropriate counseling approaches. Part 1 of this book deals with specific cultural issues relevant to the task of counseling African Americans: racial identity, gender expectations, sexual myths, power and self-image, money, community, and the black church. Providing a counseling approach sensitive to these issues, part 2 also provides particularly useful insights for non-black counselors serving African-American clients.
