(Part of summery)
There are two different medicine culture, Western medicine and Chinese medicine. Westernmedical tradition, the main objective is first to get rid of disease, and then to keep healthy. Chinese medicine treats the whole body by restoring the balance of forces flowring within it.
Thanks to modren medicine, today people can live an active life into extreame old age, while in earlier times they might have been crippled by heart disease or arthritis.

New medical equipments appear. As inside imaging techniques, the MRI scanner is safter thanothers and show which part of the brain became active as we think, talk, or move.

The laser which produces a thin beam of intense light, was created. It can be used as a scalpel to cut through tissue painlessly. Defibrillator is a decive that delivers a powerful shock to the heat to restart it after a heart attack. It forms an essential part of the emergency equipment in a modern hospita.

Holistic medicine points out the need to avoid activities that have healt hrisks, such as smoking. Freha fruit and vegetables are important part of a healthy diet. They contain vitamins that supply the body with essential minerals.

1. Main character
Medicine and the persons who discovered

2. Write the summary of the book.

True advances in medical care did not take place until the 1800s, and it was not until the 1900s that medicine was able to reduce the high death rates caused by infections. Since the 1960s medical technology has advanced faster than earlier doctors could ever have dreamed. Science and medicine are still advancing at an ever-increasing rate.
Technology concentrates mainly on medicine in developed countries, but throughout the world, millons of people do not have access to medical care at all or, if they do, cannnot afford the treatment. It is a charange for doctors and governments around the world to improve the standard of health for everyone.

3. Write your feelings about the book in detail.

Some people believe that they work because of the placebo(inactive drug) effect. Placebos given to patients in medical trials often work as well as the real drugs, probably because the patient believes that they will(See p 53).

4. Write words, phrases or sentences that impressed you most in the book and explain why they impressed you. Or you could write your questions about the book.

The brain does not have any sensory organs on its surface, so brain surgery can be carried out on a fully conscious(awake) patient(See p 57).

It seems that brain surgery is so painful, however, there is no pain!
